3. Listen
Always listen. This is an important tip if you want to learn how to have a conversation. The reason for this is when you are talking you will want others to respect you and listen to you.
This goes the other way as well and when someone else is talking give them your undivided attention, make appropriate comments to keep the conversation going, and listen.
If you are listening then keeping the conversation going will be easy because you will be interested and know what to say. However, if you are daydreaming or not listening then it will be hard to keep the conversation going because you will not know what the conversation is about. And you are indicating you do not know how to have a conversation.
4. Personal Space and Gestures
Another important tool to incorporate in your conversations is to allow everyone their personal space and make appropriate gestures. When you are engaged in a conversation with someone, unless is a romantic conversation, and then you should keep a normal space between you and the other person.
When you get too close to someone and enter their personal space they will let you know by backing away. Notice their movements and if they are backing away then you are too close and need to keep more of a distance. This is an important point when you are learning how to have a conversation.
Also, make appropriate gestures to enhance what you are saying while you are saying it. You can also use facial expressions to show you are paying attention and interested. This really helps when learning how to have a conversation.
Learning about how to have a conversation and even having a conversation with someone does not need to be scary or cause anxiety.
